Melomakarona
Melomakarona, pronounced meh-loh-mah-KAH-roh-nah, are Greek honey cookies, traditionally served at Christmas. The name comes from meli, Greek for honey, and makaria, an ancient word for a blessed offering.
They have quite a past. Their other name, finikia, has led some to trace them back to ancient Phoenicia, and legend has it they were a favourite of athletes at the first Olympic Games in 776BC. We can't promise they'll improve your discus, but they are very hard to stop at one.
Soft and spiced, made with olive oil, orange and honey, warmed with cinnamon and cloves and finished with walnuts.
Made by hand from Maria's family recipe in our Godalming kitchen, in small batches for Christmas only.
